WAYANAD - 3 nights & 4 days


DAY 01: COCHIN-GURUVAYUR-WAYANAD
Morning pick up from Cochin airport/Conference venue and transfer to Wayanad (around 7 ½hrs drive).Enroute visit Guruvayur for a break.

The Krishna temple in the town of Guruvayoor in Kerala is one of the five famous Krishna/Vishnu temples in India. The whole life of this town revolves round the temple and there is very little activity beyond what is connected with the temple even though there are a few other noteworthy temples in the area. The small idol in this temple is made of the stone known as black antimony and is a magnetic stone said to have special medicinal properties.

Later continue drive to Wayanad. (Around 5 ½ hrs drive)

Among the prettiest areas of Kerala, Wayanad has a multitude of options for its visitors. Part of a forest reserve, Wayanad is located on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The entire region is completely green with hilly ranges and wildlife including Tholpetty in the North, Muthanga in the east bordering with Tamil Nadu, Kalpetta in the south, and Mananthvadi in the north-west and Sultan Bathery (Sultan Battery) in the east. Walking through the sprawling spice plantations, taking that trek into the pre-historic caves and experiencing a resort holiday are one of the many things you can do to get a taste of Wayanad. A great place to spot wild elephants, cool breeze, beautiful scenery, Wayanad is guaranteed to please your travel senses.

Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight at Wayanad.

DAY 02: WAYANAD
Early morning proceed to Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary for Jungle Safari. Later visit Edakkal Caves.

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is contiguous to the protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the north east and Mudumalai of Tamil Nadu on the southeast. Rich in bio-diversity, the sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The management lays emphasis on scientific conservation with due consideration for the general lifestyle of the tribal’s and others who live in and around the forest region. The Sanctuary has a large population of pachyderms and has been declared a Project Elephant site. Elephants roam freely here and tigers are sighted occasionally as well. Various species of deer, monkeys and birds also live here.

Edakkal Caves are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats. They lie 1,200 m above sea level on Ambukutty Mala, near an ancient trade route connecting the high mountains of Mysore to the ports of the Malabar Coast. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to date to at least 6,000 BCE, from the Neolithic man, indicating the presence of a prehistoric civilization or settlement in this region. The Stone Age carvings of Edakkal are rare and are the only known examples from South India.

Rest of the day free for independent activities. Overnight at Wayanad.

 

  

 

DAY 03: WAYANAD
Morning after breakfast, visit Soochipara Waterfalls.

Soochipara Falls also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is a three-tiered waterfall in Vellarimala, Wayanad, India. It is surrounded by deciduous, evergreen and montane forests. Locally referred to as Soochipara ("Soochi" meaning "Needle" and "Para" meaning "Rock"), the 15-20 minute drive from Meppadi to Sentinel Rock Waterfalls has views of a number of Wayanad's tea estates.[1] The Sentinel Rock Waterfalls is 200 metres (656 feet) and offers a cliff face that is used for rock climbing.

Later visit Chembra Peak. It is the highest and the largest peak in Western Ghats of India in between Nilgiris and Himalayas exceeding 2,000m. Visits to this peak organized by 'the Chempra Peak VSS' under the control of South Wayanad Forest Development Agency, guides are provided for trekking. Chembra Peak is accessible by foot from Meppady. District Tourism Promotion Council provides guides and trekking equipment on hire charges to tourists. A heart shaped lake on the way to the top of the peak is a major tourist attraction. The lake is believed to have never dried up. You can find the lake halfway to the peak, after getting to the lake need to trek through about a km or two of dense trees.

Rest of the day free for independent activities. Overnight at Wayanad.

DAY 04: WAYANAD -COCHIN

Morning after breakfast, checkout and transfer to Conference venue/Cochin airport.
